Welcome to my website. I am so happy that you found something interesting enough about me that you decided to check a little further. If you spend just a little time on my site I think you’ll see how much fun it can be to learn what goes on behind the scenes of a m
otion picture. I also hope that you can learn a little something from my own personal story. If you want to go on a more in depth journey then please check out my upcoming book, The Boom Operator.
I am most notably known as the Boom Operator on the hit AMC TV Series, The Walking Dead. I started working on TWD at the end of Season 2, and have now completed production on the fifth season. Two years in a row our sound team was Cinema Audio Society nominated for ‘Outstanding Mixing’ for The Walking Dead. Another team that I worked with was Oscar nominated for ‘Best Sound’ for the feature, Twister.
For over 30 years I have worked in radio, TV, and motion picture production. In that time I have worked with over 30 award winning writers, actors, directors, and producers.
While working as the Senior Promotional Producer at WTLV-TV 12 in Jacksonville, FL, I won several Addy awards for my direction on news, sports, and weather promotion campaigns. I did an extensive amount of writing, editing, lighting, and performed as an actor and voiceover artist.
Film worker Tony Whitmore, describes me as, “…an idea man. There are few people who can envision things the way Robert can. He has the ability to turn passive listeners into enthusiastic participants.”
Creative Services Director, James Strader, writes, “…an excellent writer and producer, displaying both originality and strong leadership skills on all of his projects. He is driven and determined to succeed, not only in accomplishing the assignment, but in delivering a compelling and effective product”
I am a writer, teacher, speaker, and life coach. I seem to have an intuitive gift for guiding individuals to their gifts, goals, and purposes. I absolutely love to tell stories and entertain people. I get a real kick out of influencing people in a positive way. My passion is inspiring individuals into actualizing their dreams to become their own ordinary heroes. As a sound professional, I teach a course entitled, ‘The Art and Craft of Recording Sound’. As a speaker, I present to IATSE film unions, film schools, journalism colleges, film forums & associations, inspirational groups, civic organizations, and communication related conferences.
I was fortunate enough to have won the most speaking awards in my Dale Carnegie Leadership training program. In fact, I have been blessed to win many awards for public speaking since high school. After completing his Economics Degree at the University of Missouri (UMC), I spent two summers living in Mexico, where I studied the Spanish language and culture at the Universidad De Iberoamericana, and the Universidad de Veracruzana. I have also studied all aspects of screenplay writing, editing, photography, lighting, cinematography, etc.
As a member of St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church, I led groups on the Alpha Course, and men’s bible study. I also led two groups on mission trips to Mexico, where we built homes for the poor. I produced two fund raising videos for the church that helped them raise over a million dollars per year. I also produced a Travelogue video of the mission trip that helped the church recruit dozens of people for mission trips to other countries.
A good article that featured me and the Production Sound Mixer of TWD was in Sound & Picture, and it mainly centered on The Walking Dead. I also wrote an article called, “Blood, Guts, Gore…and Chiggers”, that was originally published in my Los Angeles union’s magazine, the Local 695 Quarterly. I was interviewed for Dead Fans Talking, and the recording is Podcast #11. In addition, I have two, one-hour interviews about love, passion, depression, and The Law of Attraction, with the online Intention Radio show, called Love Alchemy. I have been featured in the St. Joseph Gazette twice for my work in the film business. And, have been interviewed by KQ-TV 3 in St. Joseph, and WECT TV 6 in Wilmington, NC
Entrepreneur, Robert Wald, writes, “…a rare commodity in this age of intellectual copycats. He offers a delightful and original cocktail of talents to every table he graces…an endless stream of ideas, really good ones, and the enviable ability to share them so passionately with all who hunger for great success in business…and in life.
Recently, I spoke at the University of Florida Journalism School, and was part of a Panel Discussion at the Walker Stalker Con Atlanta. On other occasions I have spoken at IATSE Local 479, The Colorado Film Forum, Boulder Colorado’s Film Incubator, CEO Space, Wilmington Rotary Club, Edward Jones Investments, and the Wilmington Realtors Association.
I am available to speak at any event of your choice that would love to have an inspiring and entertaining evening of real life Hollywood experiences. It would be my extreme pleasure.
