Just Move Baby

Now, I’ve never been one of those ‘No Pain, No Gain’ steroid eating workout types. I’m really not that good at ‘pushing’ myself. But, I have always been above average at getting myself out there to get some exercise.

So, I am in no position to say you should push yourself to the limit if you wanna make physical gains. I believe this type of attitude prevents a lot of people from doing moderate exercise. My theory is one of enjoyment. You must feel a passion for something if you are going to continue to do it. My advice is to get yourself to the location or event. Just get your comfortable clothes on, walk out of your home, or to an open space in your home, and begin to move in such a manner as to create breathing and exercising of your muscles. Then, do it again the next day, or the next, but allow yourself to enjoy the activity. After a series of doing these rewarding events you will come to thrive on the improved breathing, muscle strength, and better attitude. It’s all about attitude. ‘No Gain, No Attitude’ could be a good way to approach exercise. Just move, move again, then move some more, and eventually you will look back and go, “Wow, I feel pretty good when I do that”.

  1. As a bodyworker who has been working with physical therapy patients for close to two decades, I wholeheartedly support this message. So many of my clients and patients have injured themselves pushing themselves too hard in some pursuit of “fitness.” If we approach exercise as something we will do over the course of our lifetimes, perhaps we can learn to pace ourselves and embrace movement and activity as something enjoyable we choose to do, not something we “have” to do. Great post!
