Givings Aside
Adjacent to the traditional giving, receiving, and thankfulness this day presides…this is a time to feel. It’s Thanksgiving Day, and it’s for more than just remembering our forefathers, and giving gratitudes to the people we love, and are loved by.
It’s much more than that, and it certainly deserves notable attention. It’s time to just stop and feel. Feel what’s going on around you. It’s not all good. It’s not necessarily the best day of your year. You’re not necessarily with the people that love you. In fact, you may not be basking in any love at all. But…I ask you to feel.
Stop for at least a good hour, and feel what’s going on around you. Take time to wonder about and smell the scents of your environment. Observe the colors that are radiating near you. Look for things that matter, that have meaning for you, that offer you some respite from your dingy life. Open up your mind to some old heartfelt passions that you’ve suppressed, or had buried by others demands on you. Just feel everything around you.
Once you’ve taken some time with this…walk away. Go somewhere else, experience something different. Bask in it for awhile. Then start to compare the two situations. Was one of them better than the other? Which one? Think about it, feel it, make mental and emotional notes. Now, as you’re telling yourself which one was better, or felt more comfortable….ask yourself this. Are you thankful for what you have?
Happy Thanksgiving
